MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 7 Review
The big winners, not in terms of margins but in terms of significance, after Round Seven of the MGFNL were Newborough and Hill End. With an ever-widening gap between the Top Four sides and the rest the Dogs and the Hillmen both had crucial wins over sides they are likely to be competing with for positions five and six come seasons end. But don’t worry there were still some big winners in terms of scores with Foster continuing on their merry way and Yinnar putting Boolarra t

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 7 Preview
Round Seven of the MGFNL is highlighted by the battle between Fish Creek and MDU, a couple of the sides rightfully eyeing off a top two spot at seasons end. This clash will go long way to deciding whether or not MDU can make the step up to compete with the best in the business or whether or not the likes of Fish Creek, Yinnar and Foster still have their measure. Fish Creek v MDU If we take a line through Yinnar here we should be in for a hell of a game between these two si

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 6 Review
After six rounds of the MGFNL the ladder is finally starting to take some shape. Five of the top six places are owned by sides who played finals last year with the single change seeing Tarwin grabbing the sixth spot Boolarra had last season. Foster look to have a march on the rest racking up some huge scores and remain the only undefeated side in the comp. Such has their scoring been they almost have a two game lead as even if they drop a game, which hasn’t looked likely al

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 6 Preview
Round six of the MGFNL season sees all eyes focused on the huge clash between Yinnar and Fish Creek. The sides have played in some enthralling encounters, including an unbelievably close Grand Final, in recent years and with both vying for a top two spot at seasons end there is plenty on the line at the Yinnar Rec Reserve come Saturday afternoon. Yinnar v Fish Creek Some of the individual matchups in this game are unbelievably good. It is almost impossible to know where to

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 5 Review
Round Five of the MGFNL saw the leagues two winless teams chalk up their first wins for the season with one of them, Stony Creek, causing what may well remain the upset of the year in their local derby (read grudge match) with MDU. And Boolarra too was finally able to sign their song after, for the first time this year, capitalising on their front half entries to kick a winning score over Morwell East. At the other end of the table the status quo remained with Fish Creek, Y

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 5 Preview
Mirboo North v Foster One of the leagues two undefeated teams, Foster, make the trek to Mirboo North this week for the Gippsland FM game of the round. Foster, pre their round four bye, knocked over Thorpdale by near on ten goals and with Thorpdale accounting for Mirboo North last week to the tune of ninety-seven points things appear pretty grim for the Mirboo North coach Damien Tuner and his teammates. Mirboo North, who will be wearing pink socks in support of Breast Cancer

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 4 Review
Round four of the MGFNL played out over the weekend with a real “moving day” feel to it. Some teams cemented their credentials as up and comers while others were left wondering “what if” in a round that saw plenty goals kicked and some rather large margins. Thorpdale v Mirboo North In terms of a statement result none came bigger than Thorpdale’s win over Mirboo North. The win itself was a great result for the home side however to run riot over Mirboo North to the tune of ni

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 4 Preview
After three completed rounds of the MGFNL the ladder makes for some interesting viewing. Whilst the points and therefore final positions will always be slightly askew until everyone has had a bye it is worth noting the league has only two winless teams and the same number of undefeated teams, and one of those undefeated sides could easily be one and one if not zero and two. So, what does all this mean? We have ourselves a mostly even competition that should throw up plenty

MGFNL 2026 Senior Football Review
Tarwin V Yinnar A resolute Yinnar held on over a fast finishing Tarwin in the opening clash of the MGFNL ANZAC Day Split round action. Rolling out a line up that had several forced changes to their Rond Two match Yinnar headed to Shark Park with returning ruckman Jesse Bowe in her side and certainly took advantage of the big man’s handy work early. At the main break it was the visiting Pies who led by over five goals with their small forwards proving mightily hard to stop f

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 3 Preview
Round Three of the MGFNL season feels more like an AFL round than a local league round with games being played across multiple days and time slots. As luck would have it this will allow league partners, Gippsland FM, to broadcast two games over the weekend. Firstly, they will take in the all-important local derby that has Boolarra travel to Mirboo North for a Saturday twilight clash followed by the Sunday battle between Hill End and Fish Creek. Mirboo North v Boolarra. To
