MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 13 Review
Round thirteen of the MGFNL senior footy saw some incredibly lop-sided results and perhaps affirmed the view that he top three sides might just be in a league of their own with Foster, Fish Creek and Yinnar winning by a combined 343 points. And sure Foster, the top side, played the bottom team but Fishy and Yinnar both played sides that were in the top six entering the round. The upside of a lop-sided ladder where three teams have cleared out on top is that the battle for f

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 13 Preview
Round Thirteen will undoubtedly be unlucky for some with a trio of finals defining games highlighting this week’s round of action across the MGFNL senior footy spectrum. The top four clash between Fish Creek and Thorpdale heads the list with the matchup between sixth placed Hill End and eighth placed Tarwin being a virtual elimination final for the Sharks. And of course, we have third placed Yinnar hosting fifth placed Newborough with the home side needing to continue wining

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 12 Review
Wet and wild conditions across Gippsland didn’t prevent some big scores in Round 12 of the MGFNL. But in and around those big scores some much closer games were played, a few of which had massive finals ramifications. Another, which ultimately had no impact on the finals, loomed as one of the biggest upsets in living memory but more on the clash between Stony Creek and Foster later. Mirboo North v Tarwin A fast-starting Tarwin jumped Mirboo North early and never really look

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 12 Preview
With many of the league’s top sides taking on clubs in the bottom areas of the ladder this week there is a better than average chance a few clubs will be cheering on the wet weather we have experienced at the back end of this week. Not that we are suggesting anything like the halcyon days of Moorabbin where it was an open secret players and officials took turns watering the centre wicket via a fire hose on game eve, water is far too valuable a commodity for that sort of behav

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 11 Review
They say a week is a long time in footy and if you’d have said a week ago, as games were being played in torrential rain and howling winds, that this week would see fine conditions and a return to some big scores you’d have been laughed at. But here we are, another round of MGFNL footy played in near perfect conditions across the region. And whilst not perfect the match played between teams eleventh and twelfth on the ladder, namely Boolarra and Toora, was an absolute ripper.

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 11 Preview
In a week where the ladder dictates we should see some pretty clear cut results in a quirky kind of way this week’s MGFNL match of the round sees the competitions bottom two sides go head-to-head when Toora ventures to Boolarra. Boolarra v Toora On what will be a big day for the home club all eyes will eventually be on the main game which could well determine who endures the ignominy of finishing in last place at seasons end. On a day that the Boolarra FNC will host their an

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 10 Review
In a round where it finally felt like “footy season” the wet weather settled in across Gippsland and made for some combative, competitive footy. Interestingly in a round where sides won by 100 points and by twelve goals the biggest winner of all was, arguably, Thorpdale who scored a fourteen point result over Tarwin. And if you think in terms of the ladder and the final series that lay ahead you will know exactly why the win was so big for Thorpy. And speaking of the ladder

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 10 Preview
If we use the Round Ten MGFNL ladder as a guide, we should be in for a series of incredibly close games this week. The round sees first placed Foster play fourth placed MDU while tenth placed Stony Creek welcomes eleventh placed Boolarra to town before a couple of crucial midtable clashes between team’s six (Tarwin) seven (Thorpdale) <insert hand gestures here> and finally fifth placed Hill End and eighth placed Newborough. It is a bit harder to mount a case for Mirboo North

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 9 Review
Opportunities present themselves in many, varied ways across the course of a footy season. Sometimes you may not even know they are there and you miss them and other times you know exactly when they pop up and you grab them with both hands. This is true of both teams and individuals. One single opportunity can swing a quarter of footy, a game of footy or even define a season. And so it was on Saturday the 13th of June 2026 an opportunity presented itself. This opportunity

MGFNL Season 2026 - Round 9 Preview
Round Nine of the MGFNL sees us reach the half-way mark of the season. And whilst each team is yet to play each other the ladder has really taken shape. There are three clear stand outs, in Foster, Yinnar and Fish Creek. They’re followed by a chasing pack of anywhere up to six ides looking for the other three spots in the finals, and a handful of sides at the wrong end of the ladder all playing to avoid the indignity that comes with finishing on the bottom. And as luck would
